The Saint Marys bridge was closed in December 1967 as a precaution following the catastrophic collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1967. The two bridges were nearly identical, both built in 1928 by the same contractor using the same unusual eyebar suspension bridge design. This image is from 1970 with ferry service bypassing the closed bridge. It never reopened and was demolished in 1971.
